Back in November, Tanzania Flying Labs shared how they’ve been working with partners to eradicate the mosquito population in Zanzibar. Around the world, mosquitoes are responsible for the death of more than 1 million people each year. Nearly half of those deaths are caused by malaria, which is transmitted by the Anopheles mosquito.
Tanzania Flying Labs trained the Zanzibar Malaria Elimination Program (ZAMEP) to collect and analyze drone data and imagery so that they could take the fight directly to the mosquito’s breeding habitat: pools of stagnant water, such as those found in rice paddies.
This video from DJI shows how Radboud University, the University of Nairobi, the State University of Zanzibar, DJI, and Tanzania Flying Labs are teaming up with ZAMEP to eliminate the islands’ mosquitoes using a non-toxic, biodegradable compound called Aquatain AMF.
