We’re excited announce that the WeRobotics family of advisors has grown again. This time we are proud to welcome Cody Benkelman to the advisory board as a specialist in remote sensing and imagery analysis.

Cody Benkelman is currently serving as a Technical Product Manager on the Esri imagery team, working to improve customer workflows with regard to using Lidar, imagery, and raster data in ArcGIS. He is part of Esri’s team focusing on UAV (drone) sensor data. He has deep experience in the field, having worked in the remote sensing and GIS industry since 1990, and serving as lead engineer on one of the industry’s earliest commercial multispectral digital camera systems. Cody’s technical background includes algorithm and software development for image processing and analysis, including one patent. He served as a principal investigator on three NASA projects. Cody received an undergraduate degree in Physics from Montana State University, and a masters degree in Applied Physics from the University of Colorado.

Cody will be helping WeRobotics to make significant gains in the use of aerial and satellite imagery for humanitarian aid, environmental protection, agriculture and other key areas. WeRobotics already employs a full suite of ArcGIS tools, from Drone2Map to ArcGIS Pro to City Engine, across all of the Flying Labs. With Cody’s guidance we’ll be able to help bring the value of remote sensing and image analysis to bear on some of the world’s toughest problems and build GIS capacity throughout the Global South.
